Hong Kong City Hall, Central|Hong Kong String Orchestra: HKSAR Establishment Celebration Concert Strings with Love 28 Years
Description
The Hong Kong String Orchestra (HKSO), renowned for its daring spirit of "innovation" and "adventurism," has consistently pushed the boundaries of classical music, earning acclaim for its "unique Hong Kong sound blending Eastern and Western influences" through versatile string expressions. To celebrate the 28th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China, Artistic Director and violinist Jue Yao will lead the HKSO, joining forces with Shanghai Symphony Orchestra's resident conductor Zhang Jiemin, to present the concert Strings with Love: 28 Years – Innovation・City Pulse.
Infused with the soul of "creativity" and the spirit of "fearless exploration," the concert will celebrate Hong Kong’s ceaseless urban vitality through dynamic string performances, paying tribute to the city’s "everyday heroes" who contribute to its prosperity. The repertoire spans East and West, merging tradition and modernity: from the Baroque elegance of Grieg’s Holberg Suite and the modern rhythms of Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite to the Eastern charm of Ode to the Ewha from Beijing Opera, and Kreisler’s Tambourin Chinois, which reimagines Chinese motifs through a Western lens. A highlight will be the world premiere of Hong Kong Movie Medley, arranged by local composer Ronald Fu, weaving iconic movie themes from the 1970s to the present into a musical chronicle of the city’s half-century legacy. The HKSO will also collaborate with local students to perform the patriotic anthem Our Home by composer Alan Cheung, blending pure children’s voices with orchestral grandeur to resonate with the era’s theme of unity between home and nation.
